Box Score 2 BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College softball team dropped both ends of the CUNY Athletic Conference doubleheader to Brooklyn College, on Saturday afternoon, on the South Field. Lehman lost the first game, 12-5, while dropping the second contest, 12-1.
In Game One, sophomore pitcher Meghan Bravo (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) suffered her first loss of the season. She pitched a complete game, giving up nine earned runs in seven innings, while striking out three hitters.
With Lehman trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the second, freshman outfielder Karina Lora (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Leadership Academy) and sophomore second baseman Arlette Martinez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Newton) produced back-to-back RBI singles to pull the Lightning within three runs.
The Bulldogs were able to extend their lead to 8-2, but in the home half of the fifth, junior shortstop Jona Kerluku (Ozone Park, N.Y./CTEA) doubled to right field, scoring senior first baseman Ashley Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Leadership Academy) and junior catcher Kyala Cruz (Brooklyn, N.Y./American Senior), to narrow Brooklyn's lead to 8-4.
In the bottom of the seventh, sophomore third baseman Linda Resto (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.) hit her first career home run, to score Lehman's fifth run. The Lightning ended up losing the opening game, 12-5.
In Game Two, the Bulldogs (5-5, 4-0 CUNYAC) piled on 11 runs in the first three innings to take complete control of the contest. Bravo tallied an RBI single in the home half of the third, to score Williams. That was the only run the Lightning (2-2, 0-2 CUNYAC) scored for the game.
In the circle, Bravo took the loss as she went three innings, giving up seven earned runs, and striking out two hitters. Her record as a starter is now 2-2. Martinez pitched in relief, giving up no earned runs, one hit, while striking out two Brooklyn hitters, in two innings pitched.
The Lightning will be back on the South Field, on Monday, for a non-conference doubleheader against Purchase College. The first pitch of the opening game will be thrown at 3:30 p.m. Â Â
