Box Score 2 BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College softball team won both ends of the doubleheader against Sarah Lawrence College, on the South Field, on Wednesday evening. Both contests were wild affairs. Meghan Bravo recorded a walk-off RBI single to propel Lehman to an 8-7 victory.
Bravo (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) also had a successful day in the circle, earning two victories. In the first game, she pitched 3.1 innings in relief, giving up three earned runs, while striking out just as many hitters. In the second game, she pitched a complete game, going seven innings, surrendering four runs, while picking up four strikeouts.
In the opening game, the Lightning trailed 9-0 heading to the bottom of the second. Lehman was able to score two runs in that frame to begin the comeback. Trailing 10-3 in the bottom of the third, junior outfielder
Chariny Graciano (Jackson Heights, N.Y./Information Technology) drove in two runs on a single to narrow Sarah Lawrence's lead to 10-5.
With the Lightning trailing 10-7 in the bottom of the fourth, junior shortstop
Jona Kerluku (Ozone Park, N.Y./CTEA) drove in a pair of runs on a ground-rule double, to shrink Lehman's deficit to 10-9. Freshman second baseman
Karina Lora (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Leadership Academy) helped Lehman tie the game at 10, thanks to tallying a run batted in on a groundball. Up next was Graciano, who connected for a single to score Kerluku, which gave Lehman its first lead of the game, 11-10.
The game was tied at 13 heading to the bottom of the sixth. At that point, Lehman blew the game open by scoring eight runs in the frame to clinch the first game, 21-13.
Graciano drove in four runs, on three hits, and scored one run. Bravo scored four runs, had two hits, and tallied two RBI. Senior first baseman
Ashley Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Leadership Academy) had two RBI and scored three runs, while sophomore third baseman
Linda Resto (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.) scored four times.
In the second game, The Lightning (4-3) had a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second, with runners at the corners. Sophomore outfielder
Imalay Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./Metropolitan) stole second and Graciano was able to steal home on the throw, to put Lehman up by three. Rodriguez then scored on a single by sophomore outfielder
Arlette Martinez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Newtown) to give Lehman a four-run advantage.
In the bottom of the fourth, Martinez picked up another RBI single to extend Lehman's lead to 6-3. The Lightning had a 7-3 advantage, but Sarah Lawrence (0-10) would come all the way back to tie the game in the top of the seventh. In the bottom frame, with runners on second and third, and one out, Bravo provided the heroics by lacing a single to right field, scoring Martinez and giving Lehman the walk-off win, 8-7.
Resto added two hits, including a triple, and scored a run. Lora scored a run, drew a walk, and stole a base. Martinez added two stolen bases to go along with two runs, two hits, and just as many runs batted in. Williams recorded one hit.
The Lightning will battle John Jay, in a road CUNY Athletic Conference game on Thursday, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
