Box Score 2 QUEENS, N.Y. – The Lehman College softball team earned a pair of CUNY Athletic Conference victories over York College, at Padavan-Preller Field, on Thursday afternoon. The Lightning won Game One, 21-3, while taking the second game by a score of 17-4.
In the opening game, the Lightning scored four runs in the top of the first, eight in the second, three in the third, and six runs in the fifth. In the first frame of the game, senior first baseman
Ashley Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Leadership Academy) began Lehman's run production by delivering an RBI triple to score sophomore second baseman
Arlette Martinez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Newton).
In the top half of the second, Williams continued her production at the plate by scorching a run-scoring double to extend Lehman's lead to 7-3. Junior catcher
Kyala Cruz (Brooklyn, N.Y./American Senior) followed with a two-run double to score Williams and sophomore third baseman
Linda Resto (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.).
Sophomore pitcher
Meghan Bravo (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) took advantage of the early run support, by pitching a complete game victory, only giving up two earned runs, while striking out eight batters in five innings pitched.
For the game, junior outfielder
Chariny Graciano (Jackson Heights, N.Y./Information Technology) drove in two runs, including an RBI triple, while freshman outfielder
Karina Lora (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Leadership Academy) had three RBI on the afternoon. Sophomore shortstop
Jona Kerluku (Ozone, N.Y./CTEA) drove in three runs, including an RBI single, while Resto tacked on an RBI of her own.
In Game Two, the Lightning (7-6, 3-5 CUNYAC) continued to light up the scoreboard, by producing six runs in the first, three in the second, and putting up a four-spot in both the third and fourth frames.
In the opening inning, Kerluku, Graciano, and Martinez each produced an RBI single. In Lehman's next frame, Graciano ripped a double to left center, scoring Kerluku, to put Lehman up 8-1.
In the third, Lora tallied an RBI single to put Lehman up 11-1. Sophomore outfielder
Micharey Almanzar (Bronx, N.Y./Park East) produced a two-run single to extend Lehman's lead to 13-1. In the next inning, Graciano capped off Lehman's scoring by producing her second RBI single of the contest, to extend Lehman's lead to 17-4.
For the game, Bravo produced an RBI by drawing a walk with the bases loaded, while Kerluku drove in two runs in the second end of the doubleheader.
In the circle, Martinez earned her first victory of the season, pitching a complete game, giving up two earned runs on just three hits, while fanning five batters.
The Lightning will return to the South Field on Friday, for a CUNYAC doubleheader against the College of Staten Island. The first pitch will be thrown at 3:00 p.m.
