Women's Soccer Drops Non-Conference Match to Old Westbury

Box Score
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the year to SUNY Old Westbury, 6-3, on Long Island on Saturday afternoon. The Lightning drop their record to 4-1.

Lehman fell behind 3-0. Just under ten minutes into the second half, freshman midfielder Chelsey Harris (Bronx, N.Y./Cayon) found classmate Daisy Gomez (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester), who rifled the ball past the diving goalkeeper to put Lehman on the board. Just under two minutes later, the Panthers found the back of the net to regain their three-goal lead.

Senior defender Samantha Dias (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) was able to inch Lehman closer, thanks to scoring a goal on a free kick in the 58th minute. Less than a minute later, the Panthers answered right back to go up 5-2.

Trailing 6-2 in the 64th minute, Harris forced a turnover and fired the ball past the goalkeeper for her sixth goal of the year, to narrow Old Westbury's lead to 6-3. That would be the final score.

Lehman outshot Old Westbury, 15-13, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 5-0.

The Lightning will open CUNY Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, against York on the South Field, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
