Box Score BRONX, N.Y. –  The Lehman College women's soccer team kicked off the 2015 season on a high note, by defeating Yeshiva, 4-0, on Tuesday evening on the South Field. The Lightning are now 1-0.
Sophomore midfielder
Pamela Sanchez-Espejel (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) and classmate Chelsea Harris each netted two goals, while freshman midfielder
Daisy Gomez (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester) added an assist.
Sanchez scored the game's first goal on a breakaway, to give Lehman a 1-0 lead, just 9:33 into the contest. Less than six minutes later, Sanchez forced a turnover and shot the ball point-blank into the back of the net to put the Blue and Gold up by two goals.
In the 17
th minute, Harris rifled the ball from 15-yards out and into the cage to give the Lightning a three-goal cushion. In the second half, Harris scored her second goal of the match, by taking a feed from Gomez and tapping the ball past the goalkeeper, to put Lehman up 4-0 with 32:10 remaining. Lehman went on to win by that score.
For the evening, the Lightning outshot the Maccabees 38-2. Sophomore goalkeeper
Stephanie Gonzalez (Yonkers, N.Y./Gorton) recorded two saves.
Lehman will be back in action this weekend for the Mount Saint Vincent Classic. Lehman will battle SUNY-Delhi in the first round on Saturday, at 3:00 p.m. On Sunday, The Lightning will either take on host Mount Saint Vincent or New Jersey City, with the time to be determined.Â
