Women's Soccer Defeats Maritime For Third Straight Win

Box Score
THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three matches, by defeating Maritime on the road, 2-1, on Tuesday evening. The Lightning are now 7-1, which is the best start in program history.

Senior forward Juliana Generoso (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute to help Lehman secure the win.

In the first half, the Lightning got on the board first thanks to a high shot by freshman midfielder Michelle Reyes Ruiz (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla) that went past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net to put Lehman up 1-0, just over nine minutes into the match. The Privateers were able to tie it up just eight minutes later. Both teams went into the half all knotted up at one.

In the second half, freshman midfielder Chelsey Harris (Bronx, N.Y./Cayon) shot the ball right at the goalkeeper. Generoso was able to pick up the rebound and drill the ball into the back of the cage, to give Lehman a 2-1 lead with 23:39 left to play in regulation. The Lightning would never look back as they went on to win, 2-1.

Lehman outshot Maritime 24-3. The Lightning had six corner kicks, while the Privateers had two.

Lehman will be back in action on Wednesday, for a CUNY Athletic Conference match against Medgar Evers, on the South Field. The match is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
