Box Score Bronx, N.Y. – Two goals from
Chelsey Harris led the way as the Lehman College women's soccer team defeated John Jay, 4-1, in CUNYAC play Wednesday night at the South Field.
Harris tallied her team-leading 11th and 12th goals of the season for the Lightning (8-5-1, 4-1 CUNYAC), who have won four consecutive games. They are currently one game back of first place in the CUNYAC behind both Staten Island and Brooklyn in second place.
Lillian Barreto notched the game's first goal, while
Daisy Narvaez netted her second goal of the season.
Gredia Sanchez-Espejel dished out two assists while
Pamela Sanchez-Espejel chipped in with an assist of her own.
Mary Jo Anzano recorded the lone goal of the game for the Bloodhounds (5-10, 1-3 CUNYAC) on a penalty kick in the second half. Keeper Kelli Doherty stopped nine shots on net in a losing effort.
The scoring began when Barreto notched her sixth goal of the season on a nice pass from P. Sanchez at 10:50. Harris got the first of her goals at 29:43 on a G. Sanchez pass ahead as Lehman took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Harris made a move on a breakaway early into the second half and beat the keeper to extend the lead to three.
After Anzano's penalty kick cut the John Jay deficit, Narvaez headed in a great corner kick from G. Sanchez at 64:05 to close out the scoring and the victory.
The Lightning return to action Saturday on the road when they face off in a crucial CUNYAC matchup with Brooklyn College, a team one game up for a share of first place. Start time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Brooklyn College Field.
