Flushing, N.Y. -- The Lehman College women's tennis team fell short in the CUNYAC Finals, dropping to defending champion Baruch College, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the USTA Center.
This snaps a program-best 13 match winning streak for the Lightning (14-2), who were seeking their first conference championship in program history. It was the first time in program history that Lehman was in the championship game.
In singles play,
Kantomalala Rasedoara was the lone winner on the Lehman side with a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the No. 5 singles spot.
Sacha Espiritu dropped a 7-6, 6-2 in the No.1 spot, while both
Lizaveta Markouskaya and
Lynessa George fell in three sets each. Mama Aoki's No. 3 and
Patricia Cadet's No. 6 match-ups went unfinished.
On the doubles side, Aoki and Cadet earned an 8-1 win in No. 3 doubles play which was the Lightning's only doubles win. The team of Espiritu/Markouskaya fell 8-4 in No.1 doubles and George/Rasedoara dropped an 8-3 decision in No. 2 play.
The loss concludes the best season in Lehman's program history for women's tennis, finishing with 14 wins and a 13-win winning streak.
