Box Score Bronx, N.Y. – After allowing the game-tying goal with one minute left, keeper
Linda Resto recovered to make some game-saving stops as the Lehman women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie against the College of Old Westbury Monday evening at the South Field.
Resto made a season-high 14 saves for the Lightning (4-4-1), dropping her goals against average to 1.59 which ranks second in the CUNYAC.
Daisy Gomez tallied her team-leading sixth goal [tied for third in CUNYAC] of the season on a wild bouncing kick in the 47th minute.
The Panthers (3-6-1) got their game-tying goal in the 89th minute from Sara Bey. Goalkeeper Mary Clark stopped six shots on goal in the tying effort.
Both teams played aggressive on the offensive end in the first half and had numerous chances to break through for a score. Lehman had a would-be goal in front of the net wiped out by an offside call, while the Panthers had attempts at the front of the net stopped. Clark and Resto were able to stop all shots on target in the first as the game remained scoreless at intermission.
The Lightning would get on the board on a high bouncing kick from Gomez that bounced over the head of Clark at 46:31. Resto would make some impressive saves on breakaway attempts. After the defense clamped down for the majority of the game, Bey would swoop in on the right wing and beat the keeper at 88:51 to even the score at 1.
Both teams had the chance to earn the overtime win, but time expired for both teams' first tie of the season.
Up next for Lehman is a matchup on the road when they face the College of Mount Saint Vincent Wednesday afternoon. Start time in Riverdale is set for 4:00 p.m.
