Bronx, NY – The Lady Lightning begin their quest for back to back NCAA appearances tonight as they face Ferrum College in the opening round of the Kean University Tip-off Tournament in Union, NJ. The other two teams in the tournament are Kean and Alma College. The Lehman-Ferrum contests tips at 5:00 pm. The losers of both contests will meet in the consolation game on Saturday while the winners while battle in the championship.
Amely Del Rosario, the only returning starter from last years' squad that went 20-8, will lead a talented group of newcomers. Although the season is just getting underway, Del Rosario has already garnered some regional and national recognition. The senior has been named a Pre-season Honorable All-American by D3Hoops.com and the CUNYAC Pre-season Player of the Year.
Ferrum (1-0) has already played one contest this season. The Panthers took down in state rival Roanoke 84-73. Zarkia Mattox recorded a double-double and led three players who also tallied double digits on the night. Mattox scored 31 points while grabbing 13 rebounds. Erin March and Maggie Self added 24 and 15 points respectively.

The men's squad will look for their first win of the season, having dropped their opener 83-85 to Maritime College. Lehman will travel to Poughkeepsie, NY to participate in the Vassar Tip-off Tournament. Also participating will be Johnson State (VT), Keuka College (NY) and host Vassar.
The Lightning have drawn Johnson State in the opening round set to get underway on Friday at 6:00 pm from the Athletic and Fitness Center on the Vassar campus. On Saturday, the winner and losers will meet in the consolation and championship contests. The consolation game is scheduled for 2:00 pm with the championship game to follow at 4:00 pm.
Andrew Utate and Edwin Pasquale paced Lehman In their season opener with 18 and 17 points respectively.
John Brens added 10 points and six assists.
The Johnson State Badgers stand at 1-0 after defeating Maine-Presque Isle 66-55 in their season opener this past Tuesday night. A trio of Badgers netted double figures to lead them to victory. Margwon Wynn and Rasul Jackson scored 14 and 13 points respectively. Jeyquan Johnson came off the bench to add 11 points.
