Throggs Neck, N.Y. -- In their 2016-17 debuts, the Lehman men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Maritime College Thursday night at the Reisenberg Aquatic Center. The men's team dropped to the Privateers, 117-76, while the women lost 129-62.
Among the notable finishers for the Lightning (0-1) are
Adam Acevedo, who won the 50-yard freestyle at 24.36 seconds. He also secured the men's 100-yard butterfly win at 57.36 seconds. Chris Fischer notched the win in the 100-yard freestyle at 52.79 seconds, and also finished in second in the 200-yard IM.
Francis Turbi took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:14.06. In that same event, Lehman also grabbed second and third as Chad Padayogdog (1:22.60) and
Herman Rodriguez (1:27.05). The team of
Raymond Burdier, Jonathan Zacsh, Rodriguez and
Escardo Castelan won first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:12.86.
On the women's side,
Angela Mejia earned nine points for her team with the first of three first-place wins (59.22 seconds) in the 100-yard freestyle. She then earned a second first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with an impressive time of 1:16.90, then
Christina Hitchman (1:37.10) and
Claudia Rodriguez (1:49.29) secured second and third place. The third win for Mejia came in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:13.85.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of
Dayana Vallejo,
Ziniah Haynes,
Caroline Layme and
Belkys Perez won 1st first and 11 points with a time of 3:09.54 seconds. The Lightning also earned second place with a time of 3:22.70, led by
Rosa Vallejo, Claudiane Melvin,
Sheila Davila and
Katherine Guzman.
The next matchup for the Lightning men's and women's team will take place Saturday November 12th when they have their 2016-17 home debut against the College of New Rochelle in the APEX Swimming Pool. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
