Staten Island, N.Y. -- The Lehman College men's and women's swimming team took on CUNYAC foe the College of Staten Island, and were both defeated on the road Friday night at the CSI Athletic Complex.
On the women's side (2-5), they lost to the Dolphins 128-91 in the matchup. Among the notable finishers for the team were
Yaidee Nieves who secured a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:19.71 as well as second in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:21.98.
Christina Hitchman grabbed second place in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:07.90 and second in the 50-yard freestyle at 29.42. On the 1-meter diving side,
Gabriela Rodriguez earned a score of 129.60 good for second place.
The Lightning men's team (3-3) were defeated by CSI, 157-74. In defeat, they were led by the first-place winners in the 200-yard medley relay team of
Christopher Fischer,
Francis Turbi,
Adam Acevedo and
Ryan Sanchez with a time of 1:49.91. In the 50-yard freestyle, Fischer nearly earned first but finished in second place with a time of 23.50 while Acevedo placed third at 24.74.
Acevedo also took second in the 100-yard butterfly (57.50), while Fischer secured second in the 100-yard freestyle (52.23).
Juan Toribio earned a score of 181.80 in the 3-meter diving event which was good for second place.
This concludes the 2016 portion of the season for both the men's and women's teams, and both will return in the new year when they head to Baruch College on January 12th. Start time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
