Staten Island, NY - The Lehman College softball season came to an end this afternoon after Lehman fell 8-0 to the College of Staten Island in the first game of the day and dropped a hard fought 9-7 decision to Baruch in an elimination game. Both games were played at the College of Staten Island Softball Complex.
In the seventh the Lightning were in great shape to plate multiple runners. Lehman lead off the frame as the first four batters all reached base.
Chariny Graciano led off with a single to center field. Paulino was then hit by pitch to put runners on first and second. Bravo than delivered a double to left center which was followed by a single off the bat of
Linda Resto. Resto then stole third to move the tying run into scoring position with no outs. The Lightning was thwarted as Lehman hit into a double play and then popped up to third to end the game.
Baruch jumped out to an early lead as the Bearcats plated a run in the bottom of the first. They extended the lead in the bottom of the fourth as the scored five more times. The Lightning got back into the contest in their next at bat Lehman scored five runs of their own to cut the deficit to 6-5. The big hit for the Lightning in the fifth was a two out bases clearing triple by
Genesis Paulino. She later scored on a Bravo single. The Bearcats would add a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 9-5 lead heading into the top of the last inning. The Lightning plated two runs in the top of the last but could not get any closer.
Bravo pitched well in the loss as only three of the Bearcats runs were earned. The Lightning belted out 11 hits as Graciano, Bravo,
Yzaira Galan and
Karina Lora were each credited with two hits.
In the opener against CSI, the Dolphins pitcher kept the Lightning bats at bay throwing a no-hitter. Bravo pitched very well only surrendering 4 hits and 2 earned runs.
Lehman concludes the 2016 campaign with a record of 10-19.
