Box Score Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team dominated the first half on both sides and would continue into the second as they defeated St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), 7-1, Saturday afternoon on the South Field.
Lillian Barreto (Bronx, N.Y.) tallied a hat trick in the victory for the Lightning (2-1), while
Daisy Gomez (Port Chester, N.Y.) added two goals of her own.
Pamela Sanchez-Espejel (Yonkers, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the game and had an assist, while
Chelsey Harris (Bronx, N.Y.) added a goal and an assist.
Gredia Sanchez-Espejel (Yonkers, N.Y.) dished out a game-high two assists on goals to P. Sanchez and Barreto.
Christine Emigholz notched the lone goal for the Lady Bears (0-3) in a losing effort, scoring on a wild shot in the 48th minute. Keeper Kristen Candelaria made eight saves while in net for St. Joseph's.
Lehman controlled the offensive tempo all first half, keeping the ball primarily in attack. P. Sanchez got the scoring goal in the 12th minutes off a pass from G. Sanchez. Barreto would follow less than ten minutes with her first goal. Gomez netted two straight goals, scoring in the 25th and 28th minutes respectively. Barreto closed out the half with their fifth goal to move ahead 5-0 at intermission.
Harris got on the board following Emigholz's score to push the lead back up to 6-1, and then Barreto completed the hat trick on a nice pass from a G. Sanchez free kick to seal the win.
The Lightning will look to win in conference play when they head to play CUNYAC rival the College of Staten Island Wednesday afternoon. Start time is set for 4:00 p.m.
