Box Score Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team got off to an aggressive start on the attack, and were able to convert on chances as they defeated Maritime College, 3-0, in their 2016 opener Friday night at the South Field.
Junior
Daisy Gomez (Port Chester, N.Y.) led the way for the Lightning (1-0), tallying two goals in the victory.
Susana Tario (Bronx, N.Y.) chipped in a goal of her own, while
Gredia Sanchez (Yonkers, N.Y.) dished out two assists and
Pamela Sanchez (Yonkers, N.Y.) added one helper.
Goalkeeper Cammie Havens made 11 saves in the game in a losing effort for the Privateers (1-1).
Lehman established an offensive presence early on, attacking and firing on eight shots on goal in the first half and 14 overall. Gomez scored the first of her two goals in the 15th minute on an outstanding lead pass from Sanchez.
After going to half up 1-0, they struck again in the 60th minute when Sanchez found Tario on a cross. In the 88th minute, Gomez closed out the Lehman scoring with a goal on a Sanchez assist to seal the victory.
The Lightning will return to action next Wednesday seeking their second win, going on the road to face Bard College. Start time is set for 8:00 p.m. in Annandale-on-Hudson.
