Box Score Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team scored two goals in a span of four minutes as they earned their first conference win, against CUNYAC foe City College of New York, 2-0, Wednesday night at the South Field.
The Lightning (3-3, 1-1 CUNYAC) were led by
Chelsey Harris, who scored what would be the game-winning goal early in the first half along with an assist.
Daisy Gomez collected her team-best fifth goal of the season, while
Gredia Sanchez-Espejel secured a helper in the victory. Keeper
Linda Resto earned the shutout victory with three saves on net.
CCNY (2-4, 0-2 CUNYAC) got three shots on goal from Tatiana Zuluaga in a losing effort, while Catherine Langkamp stopped five shots in net.
Lehman struck first in the 15th minute, when Harris got a great pass from Noguez on a breakaway and beat the keeper to go up 1-0. Four minutes later, Gomez tallied her team-best fifth goal of the season after assists from Sanchez and Harris and took a 2-0 advantage at intermission. The second half was a defensive battle between the two teams, and the Lightning held the Beavers scoreless with Resto and
Arlette Martinez in net.
Up next for Lehman is a trip to Bronxville for a non-conference matchup against Sarah Lawrence College Sunday night. Start time is set for 6:30 p.m.
