Bronx, NY – The Lightning women's tennis team earned a 7-2 victory in their season opener as they defeated Sarah Lawrence College 7-2.
The Lightning won all three double matches.
Sacha Espirtu and Lizareta Markouskaya teamed up at first doubles to defeat Juliet Slade and Sarah Pyatt 8-2. Playing second doubles,
Lynessa George and Kanto Rasedoara blanked their opponents 8-0. In third doubles
Leslie Juanacio and
Akua Duodu were declared the winners by default.
In singles Lehman won five of two matches. Espiritu was declared the victor at number 1 singles after winning the first set 6-2, her opponent withdrew. George playing number 2 defeated Pyatt 6-2, 6-2. At third singles Markouskaya downed Slade 6-1, 6-2. Lehman dropped matches at fourth and fifth singles. However
Toyosi Adebayo was victorious at the sixth spot, winning 6-0, 6-1.
Coach Belzunce gave the match balls to Toyosi and Lizaveta after the match.
The Lightning are back in action next Saturday at noon on the APEX Courts. The Lightning will play their first conference match as Baruch will make the trip to the Bronx.
