New York, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's and women's swimming and diving teams were both defeated by CUNY opponent Baruch College on the road Thursday night. The women lost 108-89, while the men's team dropped to the Bearcats 101-89.
On the men's side,
Christopher Fischer earned first place in the 200-meter freestyle with a 2:13.44 finals time and then second in the 100-meter freestyle at 59.41.
Adam Acevedo grabbed the top finish in the 100-meter butterfly at 1:04.85, while
Siprian Mayol took first in the 400-meter freestyle at 5:37.71.
In the 100-meter breaststroke, Lehman took the top three spots with
Francis Turbi securing a first-place finish at 1:23.36.
Andy Almonte and
Herman Rodriguez earned second and third in the event with times of 1:37.59 and 1:37.64, respectively. Mayol, Dominque Herrera,
William Marin-Vidals, and Almonte took a time of 2:24.77 for first in the 200-meter freestyle relay.
Among the notable swimmers for the Lighting women were
Angela Mejia, who took first place in the 100-meter freestyler at 1:07.74. She also earned second in the 200-meter IM at 2:46.49. In the 100-meter backstroke,
Teresa Hernandez earned the top spot with a time of 1:59.05, while
Olubunmi Oladele (2:11.40) and
Rosa Vallejo (2:31.68) finished second and third respectively.
Katia Galindo earned nine points for the squad with a first-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 7:51.47, while
Yaidee Nieves grabbed first in the 100-meter breaststroke at 1:32.65.
Christina Hitchman and
Claudia Rodriguez rounded out the second and third-place spots in the 100-meter breaststroke. The 200-meter freestyle relay saw the Lehman team of
Sheila Davila, Galindo,
Alexis Vasquez and Carolina Layme take first with a finish time of 2:45.92.
Up next for the team is a home meet Saturday against William Paterson at the APEX Aquatic Center. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
