Bronx, N.Y. -- The Lehman College men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted Brooklyn College, and both were victorious in the regular season finale as the men won 128-107 and the women won 113-97 Wednesday night at the APEX Aquatic Center.
Both teams celebrated Senior Night in the last home meet for the 2016-17 campaign and the seniors were honored prior to tonight's meet.
This is the second conference win for the men's team as they move to 4-5 and 2-2 in the CUNYAC. The women have won back-to-back meets, and improve to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
On the men's side, notable finishers included
Christopher Fischer who grabbed first place in both the 100-yard freestyle (52.39) and 100-yard backstroke (1:02.78).
Ryan Sanchez took first place in both the 1000-yard freestyle at 12:00.59 and the 500-yard freestyle at 5:49.21.
Juan Toribio took first place in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events with final scores of 204.15 and 181.95, while
Adam Acevedo secured a first-place finish with a time of 57.71 in the 100-yard butterfly. Rounding out the notables was
Francis Turbi, who finished first int he 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.17.
Angela Mejia led the Lightning women's team, finishing first in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:18.03) and 100-yard butterfly (1:08.75) along with a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (6:35.31). In the 100-yard backstroke.
Yaidee Nieves was victorious going away with a time of 1:21.47, while
Jessica Reynoso took first in the 1000-yard freestyle at 13:13.02 and 200-yard IM at 2:33.18.
Gabriela Rodriguez secured a 167.48 score in the 1-meter diving, good for first place among four divers, while
Christina Hitchman inched out Nieves by a tenth of a second for first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 30.19.
This concludes the regular season for both squads, and the CUNYAC Championships will take place next Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the APEX Aquatic Center. Start time for Friday February 3rd is 2:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday's events kick off both at 9:00 a.m.
