Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team won a set, but fell in four to the College of St. Elizabeth, 3-1, in a match played in the Bronx on Tuesday. The Lightning took the second set 25-20, but dropped sets one, three, and four by scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-18, respectively.
Lehman fell behind 4-0 in set one, but scored four straight points to tie the score at 4-4.
Paulette Sepulveda keyed the scoring spree with her strong serving. Sepulveda got a kill and used her serve again later in the set to help Lehman rally for three straight points. The Eagles took set 1, 25-13.
Set two went to the Lightning, 25-20.
Caitlin Vernon was the key factor for the Lightning. Early on, the score was back-and-forth as Lehman got some strong serves from
Samantha Delgado. Eventually the score would be even at 14-14, when Vernon used her serve to help Lehman take a 23-15 lead. They eventually took the set by five.
Set three and four went to St. Elizabeth and they took the match in four sets. Vernon finished with eight kills, eight digs and six aces. Sepulveda had 12 digs, while Delgado gave out 14 assists.
The Lehman College women's volleyball team returns to action on Friday, October 6, when they face New Jersey City University at 6PM in Jersey City.
