Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's tennis team sent its senior out as a winner, prevailing 7-1 (one unfinished) over Hunter in one of the final matches of the season on Wednesday in the Bronx. The lone senior,
Akua Duodu, was honored for her commitment to the team prior to the match.
Lehman opened play by winning two-of-three doubles flights. The team of
Sacha Espiritu and
Lizaveta Markouskaya prevailed 8-1 and the third flight of
Joanna Rosario and
Leslie Juanacio come out on top, 8-5.
The Lightning took every singles match except one, which was not completed due to darkness. In that match,
Yohara Molineros won the first set and was even at 6-6 in the second set. Espiritu won 6-0 and forfeit. Markouskaya dropped a set, but won, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Celine Figueroa triumphed 6-1 and 6-2.
Alana Bierman took the first and third sets in her match while dropping the second one. Rosario also won in straight sets.
The team improved to 3-8 and 2-1 in the CUNYAC. They return to the court on Thursday, October 5, when they face SUNY Purchase at 4PM.
