Bronx, N.Y – The Lehman College men's and women's swimming teams opened their 2017-18 season against SUNY Maritime at the Apex pool on Thursday. Despite losing both meets, the women's swimming team set a new school record in the women's 100 backstroke.
The men fell to the Privateers, 140-79, while the women were defeated 126-79. Freshman
Saina Eshtiaghi won the 100 backstroke with a new school record of 1:05.70. The Mamaroneck, New York, native also won the 200IM (2:27.40) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:06.03). Lehman also placed first and second in the women's 50 freestyle with
Angela Mejia touching in a time of 27.31 and
Christina Hitchman posted a mark of 28.70. Finally,
Yaidee Nieves won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:22.48.
Several notable performances were put in on the men's side as well.
Anton Kyrylenko won the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:16.84.
Adam Acevedo touched the pad first in the 100 butterfly with a clocking of 56.52.
Christopher Fischer was fastest in the 100 freestyle, notching a winning time of 52.43.
The Lehman College swimming and diving teams return to action on Wednesday, November 8 at 6PM when they welcome Old Westbury to the Apex pool.
