New York – The Lehman College women's basketball team used a second-half surge to earn its third-straight victory, a 74-59 triumph at CCNY in the CUNYAC opener on Friday night in Manhattan. The Lightning improved to 4-2 on the year.
The Beavers took a 6-0 lead before
Lillybeth Garcia got Lehman on the board with a jumper. Garcia would score the first seven points of the game for the Lightning. A couple of
Ayanna Behagen foul shots gave Lehman its first lead halfway through the quarter, but CCNY led 20-16 after one.
The CCNY advantage got as large as seven points on two different occasions in the second quarter. The second time occurred with 2:21 on the clock. From there, Lehman used a 7-0 run to tie the game at 36-36. Behagen opened the run with a jumper. After a steal,
Aliyah Dorsett ended up on the foul line and made one. The scoring spree was capped by four points from
Lisa Fields, who started the possession by stealing the ball from the Beavers. CCNY led at the break, 38-36.
The score would be tied three different times in the third quarter. But Lehman took the lead again on a
Eugenie Maguire layup in the final minute. Behagen added another basket in the closing seconds and the Lightning led 52-49 after three.
CCNY hit a three-pointer to tie the game on the first possession of the fourth quarter. The team took control of the game when
Selena Lopez made a bucket with 7:52 left. They never relinquished the lead from there. A Lopez free throw gave them a double-digit cushion, 69-59 and Behgan made a foul shot to give them their largest lead, 15 points. Lehman won the game 74-59.
Behagen scored a game-high 24 points on 9-16 shooting. Garcia had 15, while Fields recorded a double-double of 14 points and ten steals. Lopez finished with a dozen off the bench.
The Lehman College women's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, December 5, when they face John Jay on the road. The opening tip is scheduled for 6PM.
