Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's basketball won its fifth-straight game on Thursday with an 84-60 thumping of the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the opening round game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament from the Apex. The team improved to 7-2 on the season.
Lehman opened the game with a 7-0 run and never looked back.
Ja-Zhyoun Laing, who earned his first start of the season, opened the scoring with a layup.
Andrew Utate put the Lightning up 5-0, with a three-point-play. Finally, a
Luis Hernandez jumper at 17:53 made the score, 7-0.
The Dolphins fought back and pulled within two before Lehman pushed the attack and got their advantage up to double-digits when
Mylo Mitchell made a three-pointer at 12:36 in the first half.
Miguel Haboosh came off the bench to score eight points on 3-4 shooting. He gave the Lighting its largest lead of the first half, when he sank a trifecta with 1:27 left to make the score 47-25. Lehman led 47-26 at the break.
Lehman's lead was never in jeopardy in the second half as it swelled to as many as 28 points when
Tevon Bennett made the score 82-54 on a layup with 2:31 left. Leham went on to win 84-60. In the game, Hernandez totaled a game-high, 22 points (on 8-14 shooting). Mitchell added 17 and had five assists. Finally, Lang scored 11.
The Lighting will face SUNYIT in the championship game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament on Friday at 6PM.
