Second Half Comeback Lift Lightning to Second-Straight Win

New York – The Lehman College men's basketball used a furious, second half rally to come from behind and defeat John Jay College, 92-86, in a game played in Manhattan on Tuesday.  The team improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in CUNYAC play.
 
The first five minutes of play saw the game go back-and-forth as both sides jockeyed for position.  The score would be tied at 9-9 before the Bloodhounds took the lead for good in the first half.  A layup at the 10:41 mark gave John Jay a ten point cushion.  A Mylo Mitchell three pulled Lehman within seven.  He added a free throw to get the Lightning within six.  From there, the Bloodhounds pushed the lead back into double-digits, eventually leading by as many as a dozen,   They lead at the half, 49-38.
 
A couple of free throws at 17:21 gave John Jay its biggest lead of the night, 14 points, at 57-43.  From there, Lehman began chipping away.  A Mitchell layup cut the deficit to 12.  A Jean Marcial steal on the ensuing possession led to a Mitchell three-pointer that got Lehman within nine.  Following a timeout at 14:29, Andrew Utate nailed a jumper that made the score 59-53, Bloodhounds.  Lehman got as close as a point when John Brens made a layup at 8:38 that made the score, 70-69. 90 seconds later, a Ja-Zhyoun Laing steal led to a Marcial bucket that knotted the score at 73-73.  The Bloodhounds regained the lead a couple of times, but the Lighting went ahead for good on a Luis Hernandez layup with 2:36 remaining.  They went on to win 92-86.
 
Mitchell scored a game-best 33 points on 10-13 shooting.  Hernandez totaled 19 points and led the team with five assists.  Utate totaled 15 points, while Brens came off the bench to score ten.  The Lehman College men's basketball team returns to action on Friday, December 8, when they host Brooklyn College at 5PM.
