Second Half Surge Lifts Men’s Basketball to Third Straight Victory

Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's basketball team used a strong second-half to secure an 85-62 victory over Brooklyn College in a game played in the Bronx on Friday.  The win was third straight for the Lightning, improving their record to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in CUNYAC competition.
 
Brooklyn jumped out to a 6-0 lead early in the game.  Luis Hernandez made it 6-3 with a three-pointer and then followed that up with another bucket to pull the score to 6-5.  A Bulldogs basket made it, 8-5 but Mylo Mitchell tied the game at 8-8 with another three-pointer.
 
From there, the Lightning went ahead 16-8 on an 8-0 run.  The eight points came from Mitchell (four points), Andrew Utate (three) and Tevon Bennett (one).  A Bennett trifecta at 12:53 put Lehman up 10.  Brooklyn fought back to pull within one point, but Lehman led at the half, 45-39.
 
Mitchell scored the first five points of the second half on a three-pointer and a layup.  A Brooklyn basket at 12:28 made the score 58-50 Lehman.  From there, the Lightning pulled away with a 14-0 run.  Andrew Utate scored four points, Bennett also scored four.  Jean Marcial, Ja-Zyhoun Laing and Mitchell each made a basket.  The lead got as large as 29 when Mitchell buried a foul shot at 2:14 to make the score, 83-54.  Lehman went on to win 85-62.
 
Mitchell scored a game-high 25 points on 7-10 shooting.  He also gave out 6 assists.  Utate finished with 21 points and shot 9-16.  Bennett totaled ten, while Laing had eight and 11 rebounds.
 
The Lehman College men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, December 9, when they host Southern Vermont at 2PM.
