Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team fell behind early, but used to frenetic, second-half comeback to get back into the game before succumbing to Brooklyn, 69-55, in a CUNYAC game played in the Bronx on Friday. Lehman fell to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
In a battle of two of the CUNYAC's top teams, the Bulldogs left their mark early, leading 19-7 after a quarter. The Brooklyn lead got up to 16 points when they scored the first four points of the second quarter. Their lead eventually got as large as 20 on two different occasions, and they led at the half, 39-23.
The frenzied comeback for Lehman started in the third as they used their familiar, full court press, to create turnovers and baskets in transition.
Lynda Fields opened the scoring with a three-point play to make the score 39-26. After an
Aliyah Dorsett steal at 5:30, Fields finished on the other end to pull the Lightning within 11, at 44-33. She later made a foul shot to pull Lehman within ten, 44-34. A Dorsett layup inside of three minutes pulled the team within six, at 49-43. Brooklyn led 50-44 after three quarters.
Brooklyn opened the fourth with a 10-0 run to take a 16 point lead and essentially put the game away. Lehman fought back, getting as close as ten on a
Lillybeth Garcia basket with 3:23. Brooklyn went on to win, 69-55.
In the game, Fields scored 26 points on 9-15 shooting.
Selena Lopez recorded a double-double with 10 points and ten rebounds. Dorsett finished with nine points and seven steals. The loss ended the team's four-game-winning streak.
The Lehman College women's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, December 12, when the welcome the Ramapo Roadrunners to the Apex for a 6PM tip-off.
