Randall's Island, NY – The Lehman College softball team split games against CUNYAC rival John Jay earning their first win of the season 6-3 in game one of the twinbill. The Lightning dropped the second game 13-5. After today's action, the Lightning stand at 1-11:1-3 the same as the Bloodhounds.
The Lightning belted out 14 hits, a season high in the opening game.
The Lehman manufactured runs in each of the first two innings to take a 2-1 lead after two. In the fifth, Lehman scored two runs on two hits to extend the lead to 4-1. The Bloodhounds cut the deficit back to one with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Lightning added a couple of insurance runs in their final at bat as Lehman was credited with six hits.

Stephany Cruz were each credited with two hits. Pitcher
Yaidee Nieves was credited with the win, her first of the season.
In game two, the Bloodhounds plated four runs in the first and three in the second from which the Lightning could not come back. Lehman got on the scoreboard in the second with two runs of their own. Nieves had the big hit of the inning, an rbi triple to right center. John Jay added two runs in the fourth. Lehman was able to plate a run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning. However the Bloodhounds registered four more in the sixth inning for the final margin of victory.
Arlette Martinez and Nieves each had two hits to pace the Lightning.
Lehman is scheduled to travel to York Saturday afternoon for a CUNYAC double header. First pitch is 12:00 PM.
