Box Score 2 The Lehman Lightning softball team took it on the chin twice falling to the Bears of St. Joseph's – Brooklyn 19-4 and 15-7. The Lightning three game winning streak comes to an end. Lehman falls to 4-16 while SJC improves to 13-7.
In the first game the Lightning fell behind early, giving up 12 runs in the first inning from which they could not recover. Shortstop
Maranda Diaz led the Lightning going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
In game two, the Lightning fell behind 6-0 after two innings. Lehman was able to plate two runs in the top of the third.
Linda Resto led off the frame in with a single to left. Diaz then doubled to center scoring Resto. Diaz scored on a
Arlette Martinez single. In the fourth the Lightning posted five runs to take a 7-6 lead. The big blow came off the bat of Diaz. The freshman delivered a grand slam to left to tie the game. Lehman was then able to manufacture a run to take the lead. The Bears answered back in the fourth to tie the game at seven. In the fifth, SJC blew the game open by putting a seven on the board. The Bears added one more run the following inning for the final margin of victory.
Diaz once again led the Lightning. The freshman went 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.
Lehman returns to the South Field on Monday afternoon. The Lightning will host CUNYAC rival Hunter. The doubleheader begins at 12:00 pm.
