Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College softball team hosted Hunter College Monday afternoon, and were defeated 15-1 in game one and then 15-7 in game two at the South Field.

The Lightning now fall to 4-18 on the season, while the Hawks improved to 9-9 overall.

Yaidee Nieves pitched both games of the double dip, and also drove in three runs on a three-run homer in game two. Maranda Diaz collected four hits, two in each game, including a homer and drove in two runs. Caitlin Vernon drew a bases-loaded walk for an RBI of her own and stole a base in a losing effort.

Hunter grabbed an early lead in game one on a wild pitch, then followed with a two-run single by Stephanie Abolt in the third to make it 3-0.

The Hawks then ripped off six runs in the fourth and six in the fifth innings to put the game out of reach as seven different players drove in a run.

Lehman was able to grab the early advantage in game two, as Nieves belted a three-run homer to left-center in the bottom of the first. However, Hunter responded with eight runs in the top of the second inning with six players roping RBI singles in the frame.

Diaz helped the Lightning chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out RBI single and a second run scoring on a Hunter error. An errant throw to third allowed Diaz herself to score to make it 10-6. In the top of the fifth, the Hawks responded with three runs and followed with a run each in the sixth and seventh as they closed out the doubleheader sweep.

The team returns to action tomorrow afternoon back at the South Field, when they face off with Drew University as part of a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 4:00 p.m. with game two to follow around 6:00 p.m. Live stats and streaming video will be made available on LehmanAthletics.com.
