Box Score 2 Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College softball team could not hold on to the lead as they lost both games of a doubleheader at home to nonconference opponent Drew University, falling 10-2 in game one and 21-9 in game two Tuesday night at the South Field.
With the losses, the Lightning have now dropped six straight and move to 4-20 overall.
Maranda Diaz led the team over both games with three hits including a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in a losing effort.
Yaidee Nieves,
Julines Reynoso and
Andrelina Gil all tallied a run batted in each, while
Linda Resto added an RBI with two runs scored.
The Rangers (7-18) struck first in game one, scoring three in the first and two runs in the second. Resto would drive in a run on a bunt single, but Drew would get four more runs in the sixth to close out game one. On the mound, Drew got six strong innings from starter Emma Agostini, who also grabbed the win in game two in relief.
Game two saw the Rangers pick up the first run in the top of the first, but the Lightning would respond with five runs in the inning. Nieves would line an RBI single, then Reynoso (single) and Reynoso (double) would each plate a run. Gil would cross the plate on a wild pitch to put Lehman up 5-1 after one.
However, Drew would send 14 batters to the plate in the top of the second and would take control of the game with a nine-run, nine-hit frame that put them ahead for good. They would tack on four in the third, followed by two and five in the fourth and fifth innings respectively.
Diaz would cut into the deficit with a two-run homer in the fourth and an RBI double in the fifth, but Drew's offensive performance was too much in the defeat.
The Lightning return to action this Thursday on the road, when they travel to Old Westbury to take on the College of Old Westbury as part of a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. followed by game two at 5:00 p.m.
