Box Score 2 Old Westbury, N.Y. -- The Lehman College softball team traveled to Long Island for a doubleheader matchup but would lose both ends to the College of Old Westbury, 9-1 in game one (five innings) and 9-3 in game two, Thursday night at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
The Lightning move to 4-22 overall, while the Panthers improve to 8-8.
Caitlin Vernon smacked two hits and drove in the team's lone run in the first game, while
Maranda Diaz (two runs scored) and Micharey Almanzar each plated a run in the second game of the day.
Old Westbury would drive in two runs in the first inning in game one to grab the early lead on two RBI singles. Then Vernon followed with a run-scoring single in the third inning to cut the deficit to 2-1. Lehman would then allow three runs in the third, then two runs in both the fourth and fifth to end the game after five.
In the second game, the Lightning would secure an early advantage as Diaz would cross the plate after a throwing error on a stolen base. Their lead would not last, as the Panthers would tie the game in the first than score a run in the second then followed with a four-run third. Lehman would score on a fielding error in the fifth inning, then Almanzar roped a single then an error in center field would allow
Andrelina Gil to score to cut the deficit to four. But the lead would be too much to come back from as Old Westbury would score two more in the sixth to cap off the doubleheader sweep.
The team returns to action Saturday afternoon, when they face off with Baruch College as part of a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. at the South Field for game one, followed by game two at 2:00 p.m. Live stats and streaming video will be available on LehmanAthletics.com.Â
