Lightning earn 6th Consecutive Victory

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bronx, N.Y. -- The Lehman College softball team keep the hot streak going, pushing its streak to six straight victories defeating the Brooklyn Bulldogs at home on the South Field Monday afternoon in game one and game two in a final score of 10-2 and 14-3 respectively. 

    Maranda Diaz extended her hitting streak to 17 games going two for six (1-4 in game one, 1-2 in game 2) while scoring three runs over the course of the double header. Arlette Martinez went five for eight with four RBI's in the total of both games. Yaidee Nieves was attributed with the win in each game, and she now owns a record of 8-13 on the campaign.

    In game one, the Lightning drew first blood in the bottom of the second inning, posting two runs on two hits. Andrelina Gil led off the inning with a walk, then followed by a bunt single by Natasha Minier. Lehman moved into scoring position with a double steal executed by Gil and Minier. Mikaela Hamlett hit an RBI bunt single to score Gil. Minier scored on a Brooklyn error.

   The Lightning added three runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI triple by Linda Resto, and on two more Brooklyn errors. Lehman closed the game in the bottom of the sixth scoring five runs on six hits. Martinez's infield single scored Resto,then Martinez and Diaz scored on an error. Nieves scored on the groundout by Gil, then Minier's infield single allowed Stephany Cruz to cross the plate to end the game. 

    In game two, the Lightning erupted for 14 runs combined in the first two bottom frames of the game. Martinez started off the first inning rally with a bunt single, that brought in Diaz. Nieves followed up with a triple and advanced to home on an error by the Bulldogs. Three batters later, the bases loaded up for Hamlett. Hamlett reached base on an error, then scored on the same play to unload the bases for four more runs.  

    In the bottom of the second, the Lightning scored eight more runs on five hits. Nieves singled to score Vernon, Gil singled up the middle and advanced up to third to bat in Cruz on the at bat. Diaz's fielder's choice allowed Gil to score. Martinez gets her second hit of the inning to score Hamlett, then Vernon singled to score Diaz. 

    The Lightning play their fifth and sixth game of the week and look to keep their winning streak alive on Wednesday on the road at Bronxville, New York against Sarah Lawrence. Game one begins at 4:00 PM, and game two is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
