Staten Island, NY – The Lehman College (12-24) softball season came to an end on Sunday afternoon as the Lightning fell 3-1 in CUNYAC Play-offs to Hunter College.
The Hawks got on the board in the bottom as the first as they scored an unearned run on two hits and a pair of Lightning errors. The game stayed 1-0 until the fifth when the Hawks were able to plate two more runs. The Lightning were able to get the first two batters out but a pair hits and another error extended Hunter's lead to 3-0. Lehman was able to get on the board in the top of the sixth.
Linda Resto led off the frame reaching on an error. After a pair of ground outs, Resto found herself on third with two outs.
Caitlin Vernon proceeded to triple to center field to plate Resto.
Yaidee Nieves was able to draw a walk and promptly stole second putting the tying runs in scoring position. However, both runners got stranded. The Lightning were unable to threaten in their final at bat.
The Lightning were only able to get two base hits; the triple by Vernon and a single by Nieves in the fourth. Nieves once again pitched a strong game scattering six hits while giving up no earned runs.
The Hawks went on to play in the final where they fell to CSI.
