Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College volleyball team put up a spirited effort, but came up just short in their home opener against Farmingdale State in three sets. The scores of the sets were 25-5, 25-18 and 25-10.
The Lightning got off to an auspicious start in the opener, scoring the first two points on a
Yzaira Galan kill and
Samantha Delgado ace. The Rams responded with a 7-0 run before consecutive points from Lehman made the score 7-4. Farmingdale took the set, 25-5.
The second set was back-and-forth as the teams were tied at seven different occasions. Lehman trailed 5-1 early, but used a 5-1 run to tie the set at 6-6. Francesca Acevedo was the key server during that stretch. Later in the set, the Lighting broke a 9-all tie with three straight points coming off strong serves from Galan. The set would eventually be even at 18-18, but the Rams took set two, 25-18.
Paulette Sepulveda used her serve to help the Lightning to a 4-1 lead in set three. Farmingdale State eventually tied the score at 7-7, went up from there, never relinquished the lead and took the set, 25-10.
The Lehman College volleyball team drops to 0-6 on the year. They return to action on Thursday, September 14, when they welcome the College at Old Westbury and Rutgers-Newark to the Apex for a doubleheader. The first game is slated to begin at 6PM.
