Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's soccer team boasted its strongest output of the year in a 4-0 blanking of Brooklyn College from the South Field on Saturday. The team won it's sixth-straight home game and improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the CUNYAC.
The Lightning pushed the attack from the opening whistle, controlling possession and pressing the ball forward. Their diligence was rewarded in the 8
th minute when
Rafael Emiliano played a long pass into the box that
Omar Moro flicked past the keeper to put Lehman up, 1-0.
Lehman went up 2-0 in the 25
th minutes as Moro was on the giving end of a pass to
Salh Alzubidi who deflected it inside the far post. The Lightning had several scoring chances, but led 2-0 at halftime.
It seemed like Brooklyn would get back into the game just past the hour mark when Lehman's
Nabi Ben Bangoura was whistled for a yellow card inside the box, earning a penalty for the Bulldogs. However, Jordy Ortiz's blast was saved by
Chris Mulholland on a dive to his right, keeping the score at 2-0, Lehman. It would be the only save in the game for the Lehman keeper, but it was a big one.
In the 75
th minute, Lehman went on a frenetic attack, peppering the Brooklyn keeper with three straight shots. The second shot was parried in front of the goal, where Moro calmly chipped it in, earning his second goal of the contest. The final score came when Bangoura made a penalty kick in the final minute, sealing the 4-0 shutout.
In the win, Lehman outshot the Bulldogs 15-6, while limiting Brooklyn to the one shot on goal. Moro totaled six shots, while Alzubidi took three. Mulholland picked up his third clean-sheet of the season.
The Lightning return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 20, when they host CCNY at 4PM in a CUNYAC matchup.
