Wayne, N.J. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team opened its 2017 campaign on Saturday with a 3-0 defeat to William Paterson University.  The scores of the sets were 25-1, 25-11 and 25-6.
 
The Pioneers took an 18-0 lead in the first set before a service error gave the Lightning their only point of the set.  Set two saw William Paterson jump out to a 5-0 lead before Lehman rallied to score three straight points.  Samantha Delgado set up Paulette Sepulveda for a kill that got the Lightning on the scoreboard.  A block assist from Caitlin Vernon and Franchesca Acevedo accounted for the second point.  Finally, the tally went to 5-3 on a service ace from Sepulveda.
 
From there, William Paterson regained momentum and took the score to 12-3 before the Lightning rallied for the second time in the set.  They once again tallied three straight points all on attack errors.  Acevedo served for two of the three points.  The Pioneers took the second set, 25-11.
 
The final set saw William Paterson score the first two points before Yzaira Galan brought the Lightning within 2-1 on a kill.  Galan had two more kills in the set as the Pioneers took it, 25-6.
 
In the match, Galan led the team with four kills.  She also recorded four digs.  Sepulveda and Vernon each had ten digs.
 
The Lehman College women's volleyball team returns to action on Tuesday, September 5, when they travel to Annandale-on-Hudson for a match with Bard College.  The first serve is slated for 7PM.
