Bronx, N.Y. – A late, second half flurry by the Lehman College men's soccer team came up just a little bit short in a 3-2 loss to Ramapo in a game played at the South Field on Monday. With the defeat, the team is now 6-3 on the season.
The team got off to a slow start until
Shevante Scott blasted a shot-on-goal just past the 16-minute mark. The Roadrunners keeper made the save and kept the game scoreless. Less than three minutes later,
Omar Moro took a go at it and the goalie made another stop. Lehman had another flurry of shots late in the half, but to no avail as the game entered the intermission in a scoreless tie.
The second half saw Ramapo get on the board barely five-minutes into play. The goal, which came at 50:30 ended a scoreless streak of 260:04 for Lehman keeper,
Chris Mulholland. Two minutes after that, the Roadrunners scored again, making the score 2-0.
Lehman went deep into its bench in the second half, hoping fresh bodies would invigorate the offense. The gamble worked as the Lightning finally got on the board in the 82
nd minute when Nabi Ben Bagura converted on a penalty kick, cutting the score to 2-1.
Ramapo countered with a marker of their own in the 88
th minute to go up, 3-1. But Lehman should they had some fight left. Playing with a renewed sense of urgency, second-half substitute,
Abdou Tchakoura go to a bouncing ball in the box. He flung at it and kicked a ball that knuckled past the surprised keeper for a goal. The marker came at 89:23 and pulled Lehman with one, at 3-2. Ramapo held on and took the game by that same score. In the contest, Lehman outshot the Roadrunners, 17-5. They had six corners to just four from Ramapo.
The Lehman College men's soccer team returns to the pitch on Saturday, September 30, when they face Baruch College, in a battle of 3-0 teams in the CUNYAC. The game is slated to begin on Randall's Island at 10AM.
