Bronx, N.Y. – On a perfect day for tennis in the Bronx, the Lehman College women's tennis team ended its five-game-skid on Monday with a convincing, 6-3 victory over Brooklyn College in the team's conference opener. The Lightning improved to 2-5 on the season and 1-0 in CUNYAC play.
The Lightning dominated doubles play, taking two-of-three flights. The combo of
Sacha Espiritu and
Lizaveta Markouskaya won their game, 8-4. The second point for Lehman came at third doubles, with the pairing of
Joanna Rosario and
Leslie Juanacio prevailing 8-5.
Lehman took the first three matches in singles competition, all in straight sets. Espiritu prevailed 6-4, 6-1. Markouskaya came out on top, 7-6, 6-2. Finally,
Celine Figueroa won at third singles, 6-1, 6-4.
Yohara Molineros took the final point for the Lightning, prevailing 6-4, 6-4 in her match.
The Lehman College women's tennis team on Thursday, September 28, when they head across the Hudson River for a 3:30PM match against FDU Florham in Madison, New Jersey.
