The Lehman College men's basketball team defeated Hunter 72-67 to move into first place in the conference. The win moves the Lightning to 10-4:6-1 while the Hawks fall to 8-6:5-1.
Five Lehman players tallied double digits.
Andrew Utate led the way with 14 points and a career high 10 rebounds.
Luis Hernandez,
Jean Marcial and Miguel Haboosh chipped in 12 points apiece.
Mylo Mitchell added 11.
Hunter began the game on a 14-6 run but the Lightning battled back to tie the contest at 21 after they went on a 15-7 run. Marcial scored six of his points during the span. With just over seven minutes to play in the half Lehman went on another spurt to take control of the game. The Lightning closed the half on a 16-5 run to take a 37-11 into the locker room at halftime. Lehman was able to push the lead to 20 (55-35) after a
Tevon Bennett three-pointer with 13:23 to play. The Hawks would not go away quietly. Hunter battled all the way back, cutting the deficit to one; 66-65 with :40 remaining. Lehman would go six for six from the foul line to secure the victory as Hernandez made a pair and Mitchell made four straight.
Amer Lukac paced the Hawks with 21 points and 14 rebounds.
The will step out of conference play for the final time this season on Saturday afternoon as the Lightning will host Valley Forge at 2:00 PM.
