Bronx, N.Y. – A strong third quarter helped the Lehman College women's basketball team earned its second-straight victory, a 85-62 triumph over CCNY, in a CUNYAC game played in the Bronx on Friday. The Lightning improved to 10-8 overall and 6-3 in conference matchups.
Lehman led 23-20 after one quarter and extended the lead to 41-34 at halftime. The team really came alive in the third quarter, outscoring CCNY, 25-9 and turning a seven-point lead into a 23-point cushion. CCNY was actually hot early in the quarter, pulling within 43-40 before Lehman took over. An
Aliyah Dorsett bucket made the score 45-40 and four straight foul shots from
Ayanna Behagen, interrupted only by a steal, made the score 49-40. The Lightning never looked back. A Behagen jumper at 4:16 mark gave them a double-digit cushion, 51-40. The lead reached twenty on a Behagen three-pointer at 1:13. The largest lead of the quarter, 24 points, came on a Dorsett bucket in the closing seconds. The score was 66-43 after three quarters.
From the 43-40 score in the third, Lehman outscored the Beavers 23-3 for the final 6:43 of the quarter. The biggest cushion of the game was 30 points, when
Lisa Fields scored with 6:18 left in regulation. The team went on to win 85-62.
In the game,
Lisa Fields led the team with 21 points. Behagen posted a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds. She also recorded six assists and seven steals. Dorsett shot 9-16 for 19 points, while
Lynda Fields had 17 and a team-best seven assists. Finally,
Selena Lopez grabbed 11 rebounds. Lehman forced 29 CCNY turnovers.
The 23-point win gave the Lightning the season sweep over the Beavers, having won earlier in the year in Manhattan. The team returns to action on Monday, January 22, when they travel to Brooklyn for a matchup against Brooklyn College at 5PM.
