The Lehman men's volleyball team opened the season in convincing fashion with a straight victory over Neumann (0-6). The Lightning prevailed 25-13, 25-15, 25-15.
The Lightning attack was led by freshman AJ Szulc and
Yaw Eshun . Szulc recorded nine kills off 27 attacks. Eshun added six kills on six attacks.
Peter Veljovic and
Mentor Mahmuti chipped in five kills apiece.
George Montilla was credited with 32 assists. Freshman
Juan Carlos Santos added a team high eight digs.
In the first set, the Lightning jumped out to a 6-0 and never looked back. Neuman rallied to cut the lead to 11-8 but the Lightning answered the charge with four straight kills. In the second set, with the match tied at 16 the Lightning scored eight unanswered points leading to a 25-25 victory. Clinging to a 14-12 lead in the third the Lightning went on an 8-1 run to take control and earn the three set victory.
Lehman returns to action tomorrow at the Alvernia Quad as the Lightning take on hosts Alvernia University at 10 AM and Rutgers Newark at 2 PM.
