Lightning Fall to Cardinals....Utate Joins the 1000 Point Club

Lehman suffered their first conference defeat, falling to York 81-76.  Lehman falls to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in the CUNYAC.  York is now 4-7:2-2.  Senior swingman Andrew Utate became the newest member of the 1000 point club.  The four year standout now has 1,011 career points.

Despite 22 points from Luis Hernandez and 19 from Utate the Lightning could not overcome 20 turnovers and only getting to the foul line 14 times.   Lehman built up a five point advantage four minutes into the game only to see the Cardinals tie the game 11 with just over 13 minutes to play in the opening half.  With the game tied at 17, the Lightning went on an 8-3 run to once again take a five point advantage.  Lehman was able to extend the lead to eight, 35-27 on after a Mylo Mitchell three-pointer with 4:21 to play in the half.  The Cardinals would rally to tie the game 41 with a buzzer beater three pointer by Jean Joseph.

The Lightning scored the first seven points of the second half but could not hold on.  York was able to battle back.  With the Lightning clinging to a one point lead 53-52, the Cardinals went on a 12-0 run to take a 64-53 lead midway through the second half.  Lehman would not go away easily as the Lightning battled back.  A Utate three with 1:26 remaining cut the lead to 75-74.  However, York went 4 of 4 from the charity stripe in the final minute to secure the win.

The Cardinals were an impressive 14-16 from the foul line in the second to help secure the win.  Edwin Sainvil paced York with 27 points.  Joseph added 18 and Ryan Smart posted a double double scoring 16 points while grabbing 18 rebounds.

Lehman returns to action on Tuesday night as the Lightning hosts Baruch.
