Bronx, NY - The Lehman College women's tennis team upset John Jay, defeating the Bloodhounds 7-1. With the victory the Lightning improve to 4-7 overall and 3-3 in the CUNYAC. John Jay now stands 7-4 and 4-1 in the CUNYAC.
The Lightning swept the doubles competition as all three pairings won. The number one team of Lizaveta Markouskaya and Diwa Rana prevailed in a nail biter winning 8-6. At second and third doubles the teams of Alana Bierman and Celine Figueroa as well as Joanna Rosario and Leslie Juanacio won 8-1 and 8-4 respectively.
In the singles matches, Markouskaya's match in the one hole was called due to darkness. Bierman prevailed in the two hole in three sets. Number four Rana, number five Rosario and Yohara Molineros at number six all won in straight sets.
Before the start of the match, the team recognized the lone senior on the team, Alena Bierman.
The Lightning conclude the regular season on Tuesday as they travel to Bard before they begin action in the CUNYAC Championships.
