Bronx, N.Y. - A fourth-quarter rally by the Lehman College women's basketball team came up a little short as the CSI Dolphins defeated the Lightning, 81-71 in a CUNYAC game played in the Bronx. Prior to the start, Lehman head coach,
Eric Harrison was recognized for earning his 300
th career victory earlier in the season.
Both sides traded baskets to open the game. After a Dolphins free throw put them up 3-2, Lehman went on a 6-0 run to go ahead, 8-3.
Lisa Fields,
Aliyah Dorsett and
Selena Lopez all scored in the run. CSI responded and eventually tied the score at 14-14 with 3:23 on the clock. They closed out the quarter on a 10-3 run to lead 24-17 after one.
The CSI lead grew to 16 points, at 34-18, with 6:31 left in the second. From there, the Lightning got hot. Similarly to the first quarter, the Lightning started taking the ball to the basket and found success making layups.
Lillybeth Garcia drove and found Lopez for a bucket that made the score 34-20.
Ayanna Behagen followed with a layup. After a CSI bucket at 5:40, Lehman held the Dolphins scoreless for the next 3:57 of game time. During that stretch, they took the ball to the basket and made five layups on five assists. The scoring came from Dorsett (eight points) and
Lynda Fields (two). Lehman trailed at the half, 42-34.
Lehman got as close as seven in the third quarter, but CSI pulled away and led by 20, 66-46 after three. The fourth quarter started the Lightning comeback.
Lynda Fields opened the scoring with a three. Behagen added a couple of fouls shots and Lehman was within 15. A third-straight basket, a three from
Lillybeth Garcia, got the deficit to 12, at 66-54, inside of eight minutes. Dorsett made a layup in the final minute to get the Lightning as close as nine, but the Dolphins hung on for an 81-17 victory.
In the game, Dorsett had 24 points and eight steals. Behagen scored 18 and gave out a team-best, six assists. Lopez totaled 15. Lehman forced CSI into 31 turnovers.
The Lehman College women's basketball team closes out its regular-season on Tuesday, February 13 at 5:30, when they host Hunter on Senior Night.
