The Lehman College softball team will see their first bit of action on Thursday with a triple header. Lehman will face Grove City in a 12 PM double header followed by a single game against SUNY Delhi. After an off day on Friday the Lightning will play four more games in two days before returning north.
In the CUNYAC Pre-Season Poll the coaches in the conference predicted theta the Lightning will come in third place this season behind CSI and Hunter. Baruch, John Jay, Brooklyn and York round out the predicted order of finish.
Leading the Lightning is returning CUNYAC Player of the Year, Maranda Diaz. The shortstop hit .451 a year ago with a team leading 46 hits, nine doubles, five triples, five home runs, 39 RBI with 48 runs scored. She was also a perfect 28-28 in stolen bases. Also returning are catcher Caitlin Vernon, Andrelina Gil, Yaidee Nieves, Hailey Davila, Genesis Paulino, Karen Rivera and Stephany Cruz.
The coaching staff led by head coach
Erin Van Nostrand brought in a talented group that should pay immediate dividends. Diamond Villegas, Tiffany Adames, Samantha Torres, Essence Walker, Destiny Roldan, Lisette Guerro and Denise Gonzalez look to battle for playing time.
Lehman's first home game of the season is on March 14 against the Panthers of Old Westbury. The double header starts at 3:30 PM on the South Field.
