Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Lehman College women's basketball team used its fourth-straight win, a 79-36 triumph over Medgar Evers, to push its overall record to 14-9 overall and 10-4 in CUNYAC games. In the victory, four Lightning players reached double-figures in scoring and Lynda Fields reached 1001 career points, the final two coming in the fourth quarter.
The game was close in the first quarter, but Lehman pulled away late to lead by seven after the first ten minutes. The Lighting took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Panthers, 26-3, and leading at the half, 45-15. Ayanna Behagen made a pair of fouls shots inside of a minute to put Lehman up by 29. The Lightning added another free throw in the final seconds to secure the 30 point, halftime advantage.
A couple of Lehman foul shots at 4:13 in the fourth quarter gave them their largest lead, 45 points, at 77-32. They went on to win, 79-36.
In the win, Lynda Fields scored a game-high 22 points. Behagen narrowly missed a triple-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds and nine steals. Lisa Fields finished with 11 and Lillybeth Garcia came off the bench to total 12.
Lehman allowed 36 points for the second time this season. It was the lowest point total of the year and they first held John Jay to 36 in a game on December 5. The Lightning forced Medgar Evers into 39 turnovers.
The Lehman College women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, February 10, when they host the College of Staten Island at noon.
