Basketball Takes Center Stage

Bronx, NY – The Lehman College men's and women's basketball teams will play host to the Dolphins of Staten Island on Saturday in the APEX on the Lehman campus.

The women will take to the hardwood at noon.  Lehman (14-9:10-4) is coming off an easy victory over the Cougars of Medgar Evers, 79-36.  Lynda Fields led the way for the Lightning with 22 points.  She became the newest member of the CUNYAC 1000 Point Club.  She now has 1001 career points.  Ayanna Behagen tallied another double double, her sixth of the season, with 15 points and 11 rebounds.  Lillybeth Garcia and Lisa Fields added 12 and 11 points respectively.  Selena Lopez grabbed 11 rebounds; it was the fifth time this season she had double digits in rebounding.  Staten Island (18-5:12-3) had a pair of big wins this week with victories over Hunter (63-47) and Brooklyn (63-45). The Dolphins are led by Christina Pasaturo and Samantha Flecker.  Pasaturo, the reigning CUNYAC Player of the Year, is averaging just under 23 points a night and leads the CUNYAC in scoring.  Flecker is chipping in 15 points and a team best 7.6 rebounds per game.

The Lightning men secured the regular season crown on Thursday night with a 91-68 road win at Medgar Evers.  It was Lehman's 11th victory in a row.  Lehman now sits at 19-4 overall and 13-1 in conference play.  Mylo Mitchell and Andrew Utate combined for 50 points on 22-30 shooting.  Luis Hernandez and Jean Marcial added 18 and 12 points respectively.  Staten Island sits in second place with a 14-10:12-3 record and have won their last two contests.  A pair of sophomores, Christian Taylor and Adeola Latunji, lead the Dolphins.  Taylor is averaging 16.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest.  Latunji is averaging 15.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. The men's game is scheduled to tip at 2 PM.
