Box Score 2 Staten Island, N.Y. - The Lehman College softball team opened CUNYAC play with a pair of losses in a doubleheader with the College of Staten Island in a pair of games played on Staten Island on Saturday. The Dolphins won game one, 11-1 and took the second match, 11-3, both in five innings. The Lightning fall to 4-15 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Diamond Villegas took the loss in game one and is now 1-6 on the year. The pitcher threw an inning and didn't give up an earned run. She led the offensive attack for the Lightning, going a perfect 2-2 at the plate, including a double. Yaidee Nieves also had a hit. Lehman got a run in the fourth when Villegas collected her double. Lisette Guerro ran for Villegas, advanced to third on a come backer and scored on a Tiffany Adames groundout. The Dolphins won, 11-1.
Game two went to CSI, 11-3 in five innings. The Dolphins jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings. Lehman got back in the game with three runs in the third. Genesis Paulino led off with a single. Two batters later, Maranda Diaz ripped a base hit. Villegas followed with an RBI single and Lehman was on the board. Caitlin Vernon followed with a hit that loaded the bases. Adames, who had the RBI in game one, picked up a pair here with another base hit. Villegas and Diaz scored and the Lightning were within 6-3.
CSI pulled away for the 11-3 win. In the game, Diaz led the team with two hits. She scored a run and collected a stolen base. Villegas pitched a complete game and fell to 1-7 on the year.
The Lehman College softball team Wednesday, April 4, when they face Hunter College in a road doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at noon.
