Box Score 2 Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Lehman College softball dropped both games on Sunday, losing 13-5 to Chatham and falling to LaRoche, 11-2. The team is now 2-5 on the year and has dropped four straight after getting off to a 2-1 start.
The five runs scored against the Cougars was the second highest total this season (10 - SUNY Delhi). Lehman was the home team against Chatham and they fell behind 2-0 before pushing a run across in the bottom of the second. Tiffany Adames led off the second with a walk. She got to second when Andrelina Gil reached on a fielding error. They both moved to second and third on a wild pitch. Adames scored on an RBI groundout from Hailey Davila. Lehman trailed 2-1 after two, but tied the game an inning later.
With one out, Stephany Cruz reached on an error. She advanced to second on a walk to Diamond Villegas and moved to third on a wild pitch. Caitlin Vernon drove her in with an RBI single. The score was even at 2-2.
Chatham scored six in the fourth and five more in the fifth to take a 13-2 lead. The Lightning fought back in their final at-bat, plating three runs before losing via the eight-run-rule. Denise Gonzalez led off the fifth with a walk. She moved to second on a passed ball and got to third on a single from Cruz. After a ground out, Vernon picked up her second RBI of the game when she reached on a fielding error. Gonzalez scored and Cruz got to second. After a fly out, Gil loaded the bases with a walk. Cruz and Vernon came in on a hit from Samantha Torres. The next batter grounded out and the game ended 13-5 for Chatham.
Lehman fell to LaRoche 11-2 in the second game of the day. The Lighting got a pair of runs in the fifth to avoid the shutout. Diaz drove in a run with a single and Lisette Guerro scored a run.
The Lehman College softball team returns to action on Wednesday, March 14, when they host SUNY Old Westbury in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM.
